Disney is looking for a corporate lawyer for ’emerging technologies’ and NFTs

The Walt Disney Company may be on the verge of expanding into the crypto space after posting a new job for an “experienced corporate attorney” in “emerging technologies” such as nonfungible tokens (NFTs) and Metaverse.

According to a September 23 listing on Disney’s careers website, the company is hiring for a “Senior Advisor – Corporate Transactions, Emerging Technologies and NFTs” to work on transactions involving NFTs, Metaverse, blockchain, and decentralized finance (DeFi).

Specifically, Entertainment Congress is looking for someone who can provide “full product lifecycle legal advice and support for global NFT products” and ensure they comply with current laws and regulations on US soil and internationally.

Other duties include “due diligence for NFT, blockchain, third-party marketplace and cloud provider projects,” as well as providing formal legal advice on cryptocurrency-related issues and leading Disney’s efforts with digital currency and new technologies.

The new role comes as The Walt Disney Company slowly positions itself around the crypto, blockchain and Metaverse space.

During the company’s fourth-quarter earnings call in November 2021, CEO Bob Chapek said the company is preparing to integrate physical and digital assets into Metaverse.

Weeks later, the company filed a patent for a “virtual-world simulator,” referring to a possible theme-park metaverse.

According to the patent application, Disney’s possible entry into the Metaverse could involve visitors to their parks using mobile phones to generate personalized 3D effects in nearby locations, such as walls and other objects.

While it was reported at the time that there were “no current plans” to use the “virtual world simulator” patent, however, the latest job listing may be a sign that this is changing.

The companies selected for the program this year bring together the creators of the layer-2 scale platform Polygon and two other Web3 projects – FlickPlay, a Web3 application that allows users to discover NFTs in augmented reality (AR), and Lockerverse, a Web3 storytelling platform. and brands.
