Reddit, a social media/community app, is releasing free polygon block NFTs to its most loyal users. Last month they launched ‘Collectible Avatars’, which will also be sold to non-airdrop eligibles. This move comes on the heels of Reddit getting more into the blockchain, crypto and NFT spaces.
Reddit Airdrop (Who’s Eligible?)
The community forum has announced that it will offer free downloads of collectible avatars to core community builders on its server: r/CollectibleAvatars. The post was published 9 days ago, and they’ve been leaking ever since.
They also mentioned that there are 4 different styles of collection avatars that eligible users can choose from.
To clarify, users must hit a minimum ‘Karma’ to qualify. On Reddit, karma is a measure of how much your contribution means to the community. Users can earn Karma in a few ways: posting, commenting, and receiving rewards.
People in the Reddit community joke that Karma is a “fake internet point,” but Reddit has gone out of its way to find a utility for it, with this Reddit NFT airdrop.
Users will be notified in advance if they qualify for Reddit Weather, but the amount of karma required was not confirmed at the time of the announcement.
Currently, polygon-based NFTs are now available on OpenSea. The floor price of 16,000 items is set at 0.012 ETH.
Reddit in NFTs
Reddit has been a big fan of NFTs for a while now. There have already been rumors around the new NFT marketplace on Reddit and they have also tested NFT PFPs on the platform.
Most recently, this June, the company partnered with Gary Vaynerchuk’s VaynerNFT to publish ‘The ABCs of NFTs Playbook’ to guide new users to NFTs.
It’s also worth noting that the r/NFT community on the platform has 490,000 members, so the popularity of NFTs for Reddit users is clear.
Why Polygon for Airdrop?
Simply put, Polygon has zero gas fees for creating NFTs, similar facilities on Ethereum. For many NFTs, airdrops or giveaways work perfectly.
Many projects have used blockchain for similar drops, including cool cats that hosted a Halloween gift for anyone who entered a costume contest.
Beyond that, projects that expect large volumes of small transactions with NFTs often turn to Polygon for their needs. An example of this is The Sandbox, whose in-game properties only work on polygons.
