Total Energies SE announced on Monday that its carbon dioxide capture and storage business Northern Lights has secured its first commercial deal from Yarra International ASA.
800,000 tonnes of CO2 per year from early 2025
The Sluskill ammonia and fertilizer plant in the Netherlands will be captured, compressed and the liquid will be pumped into a permanent offshore storage facility more than two kilometers off the coast of Norway, the French energy company announced.
Northern Lights is a CO2 storage company owned equally by TotalEnergies TTE.

It will enable the transport and storage of CO2 emissions from European industry to boost the continent’s decarbonisation initiatives, Total Energy said.
The venture’s phase 1 plants are expected to be operational by 2024 and will have a capacity to process 1.5 million tonnes of CO2 per year. With further expansions, the capacity could increase to 5 million tons per year, Total Energy said.
